Full Donor List and Financial Disclosures BEFORE the Election

Full financial disclosures before the election

Transparency Pledge

This election is about the people of the Edmonton and the government that will take us forward. City hall needs to be a place of unbiased decision making driven by the needs of people - we need to deliver infrastructure that works, emergency services that can help when we need it, and essential amenities like libraries, recreation centres, and community hubs.  It cannot be driven by the interests of political parties or donor interests, and Edmontonians deserve to know who is supporting candidates before they head to the ballot box.

This why, ahead of the September 30 deadline, I will disclose all donations received, not just until the July 31 "deadline" set by Elections Edmonton, but all the way up to present day, and the entirety of my campaign contributions will be disclosed prior to the October 20 election day. Election rules currently allow a massive gap in the 80 days from the end of July to election day, and to hide donor contributions during this period until after the election does not tell the full story.

Let's not do the bare minimum for transparency - I challenge every candidate in ward pihêsiwin to share their full donor list prior to the election.

Why does it matter?

We're seeing the outsized influence of donor dollars littered all over Edmonton's streets. Being frank, EVERY candidate will be doing what they can to get their name out, and so like others, you'll see me on social media, ads, and signs all over the southwest. But there is a key difference - for the parties with money to burn, there is a blatant disregard for election rules and potential fines. Independent candidates generally play within the rules, but for some, the fines and penalties are just part of doing business, and that's just bad faith.

An important question to ask candidates is whether they are following election rules, and if not, why those rules don't matter to their campaign?

Endorsements and

Third Parties

I have run proudly as an independent candidate since the first day of my campaign, and the most rewarding part of this campaign has been welcoming supporters and volunteers to the team. It is incredibly gratifying when people see themselves in the values of this campaign, and that includes not just people, but also groups such as CSU52, CUPE30, Edmonton District Labour Council, YegMuslimVote , and Working Families Edmonton. As a first time candidate, these endorsements are especially meaningful as they are based upon my work and life experience, professional achievements, and values demonstrated through my work and volunteer commitments.

I view these endorsements the same way I view any volunteer - I am grateful for their support, I welcome their contributions when they donate their time, and I encourage them to spread the word about my campaign.

There have been some questions about their impartiality, and this is excellent - Edmontonians SHOULD question the transparency of their elections! I'll declare here (and again, this will be listed on the financial disclosure pages) that I have received no financial contribution from these groups, and just as any other volunteer or donor, I do not direct their activities nor how they spend their resources, and there is nothing owed for this support save for building an Edmonton aligned with the shared values of affordability, safety, service, and compassion.

Our campaign acknowledges the traditional land on which we reside is in Treaty Six Territory. We would like to thank the diverse Indigenous Peoples whose ancestors’ footsteps have marked this territory for centuries, such as nêhiyaw (Nay-hee-yow) / Cree, Dene (Deh-neyh), Anishinaabe (Ah-nish-in-ah-bay) / Saulteaux (So-toe), Nakota Isga (Na-koh-tah ee-ska) / Nakota Sioux (Na-koh-tah sue), and Niitsitapi (Nit-si-tahp-ee) / Blackfoot peoples. We also acknowledge this as the Métis’ (May-tee) homeland and the home of one of the largest communities of Inuit south of the 60th parallel. We acknowledge the lasting impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples of this land and commit to honouring the histories, traditions, and ceremony of those who came before us as we work towards truth and reconciliation.
